REBAK-Taj-Hotel
Rebak Island
Resort Langkawi– A Taj Hotel
December 2011
For Christmas 2011 Rebak Island Resort launched a
Christmas CSR initiative inviting guests to purchase boxes
of cookies with the proceeds being used to supply school
shoes to underprivileged children.
The shoes were presented at a special High Tea Party
at Rebak attended by 7 of 'our' children and 18 from the
orphanage Rumah Nur Kasir.
The resort laid on a special ferry to transport the
partygoers to the island – an amazing experience for the
children, who on arrival were taken by buggy to enjoy .a
wonderful buffet. Staff were on hand to help the children
with batik painting. There are some budding artists amongst
them!
We are grateful to Rebak Island Resort for their generous
donation of RM 1000 which we have placed in our Education Fund to help
with schooling costs for 2012.

Christmas Bazar
Christmas Bazaar
17 December 2011
This annual event held at Pondok Keladi raised RM 1,730 for
our Education Fund. This was achieved by sales of preloved
goods and Guess the Bottle coins, Carol's yummy Spring Roll
stall, sales of Chutney donated by Mangoes, sales of
homegrown basil donated by Erika, donations from Dev's
Adventure Tours' calendar and generous donations from other
stallholders – Sylvia, Jaxx, Tanya, Alex & Kookie.
We also sold 3 of our Cookbooks for our General Funds and
several items handmade in Batik by homebound individuals
seeking financial independence – these proceeds are placed
in a separate fund to ensure continuity of materials for
this project.
Grateful thanks to all those who supported us, to Dee for
hosting the event and to our loyal band of volunteers –
Angela, Carol, David, Laurie, Philip, Roberta, Roger, Soh,
Sue, Steve and Yoda, without whom we could never have raised
this sum!

Rebak Open Day
3 December 2011
David and Heather manned a stall for us at
this event.
A
successful day with lots of interest in our work on the
island. We raised RM 230 towards Darisah's nursery project
(see Chrysalis Programme), RM 270 towards paint and
materials to transform the home of one of our needy families
(The Rebak Yachties have again volunteered to do this work
for us). A further RM 60 came from the sale of folding bags
made by homebound individuals which will be placed in our
Chrysalis fund.
Our thanks to Mazrizal at Rebak Marina for offering us the
opportunity to have a stall and to David and Heather for
their time in setting up and running the stall.

Sue & Adrian Wedding
Sue & Adrian Wedding
19 July 2011
Sue and Adrian from Perth are big supporters of our charity
and regular visitors to Langkawi. They love the island so
much that they chose The Four Seasons for their wedding.
Their family and friends who attended the wedding were
invited to donate to our charity instead of buying gifts.
We were delighted to receive RM 1726.50 which with Sue and
Adrian's agreement, we have allocated to adopting two
families – a single Indian mother with a schoolage child and
a Malay man who has recently been widowed and left to bring
up a 1 year old baby and three handicapped teenage children.
Our thanks to Sue and Adrian for this kind gesture and our
congratulations and best wishes for their future together.
Thanks to all the guests who donated to this fund.

Garden Party
Garden Party
22 May 2011
see video here
We raised a total of RM 2961
and RM 435 will be placed in our Special Appeal for surgery
for Aqmal. The balance will be placed in our General Funds.
Over 70 people attended
and strolled in the garden, socialised and enjoyed tea with
delicious home made scones, jam and cream.
Thank you to everyone
who supported us, donated ingredients, loaned equipment free
of charge, donated raffle prizes and the Silent Auction
Prize. Thanks also to the team from Langkawi Story who
publicised the event with a video and attended on the day to
produce a memento of the occasion. We are also grateful to
Azmi and his family for the informative Bonsai
demonstrations.
An event of this size
cannot be run without the support of our volunteers – thanks
to David, John, Laurie, Linda, Philip, Pixi, Roger, Steve,
Tevie, Yoda and the Committee.
Special thanks from the
Committee to Lyn who is our Treasurer and her husband Roger,
for their hard work to get their garden looking so beautiful
on the day and for allowing everyone to enjoy it.

enabled us to achieve this great result and to the visitors
who spent so generously.
The funds will
be added to our general account to help underprivileged

Table Sale
Table Sale - Australia
November 2010
Sue and Adrian love Langkawi and visit often. They were
clearing out their home near Perth to rent it out whilst
they toured around Australia in their motor home next year
and decided that all the proceeds from their table sale
would be donated to us.
We were delighted with
this idea - even more delighted when they told us they had
raised the equivalent of RM 1200 from this enterprise! They
plan to visit Langkawi for a month in March and we look
forward to the opportunity of thanking them personally for
this kind gesture.
We will hold these funds
separately and agree with Sue and Adrian how they should be
spent for the benefit of underprivileged families in
Langkawi.
When Sue and Adrian
visited Langkawi in March they handed over nearly RM 2800
which they wished to be donated to the Special Appeal for
surgery for Aqmal.

L’Osteria and
The Brasserie – RM1 promotion
30 November to 4 December 2010
These
restaurants ran a promotion asking diners to donate RM1 per
person to their bill which they matched.
The total
raised was RM 522.
Our grateful
thanks to Lorenzo for coming up with the idea, the staff at
both restaurants who promoted the campaign so well and to
the diners who donated.
We will hold
this amount in a separate fund which will be used on a one
off project. We will update the staff on how the money has
been spent in the future.
Update 3 May 2011 - The funds have been spent
on purchasing a sewing machine for Punniavathy. She is a
single mum and is being taught to sew by two of our
volunteers so that she can start to earn a living. She is
very excited and grateful to Lorenzo and his staff for
giving her this opportunity.

2010
Our stall raised RM 388 for our general
funds from the sale of secondhand goods. We used the day as
an opportunity to network with other charities and look
forward to co-operating with them in the future to further
benefit underprivileged families on Langkawi. We were also
able to display information and posters about our Charity,
distribute our brochure and talk to those who visited us
about our activities.
Our thanks to Langkawi Fair Management for providing this
day free of charge.

Charity Stall at Blood Donation day
7 August 2010
Langkawi Fair Shopping Mall in conjunction with ANSARA
(alumni association for former students of MARA colleges)
and MARA (Indigenous People’s Trust Council) Junior Science
College in Langkawi organised a blood donation drive on
Saturday 7 August, ahead of the fasting month of Ramadhan to
aid the blood bank which receives decreased blood donations
during this period.
The Charity Club took a stall at this event selling
items (previously donated by the public) in order to raise
funds to provide food parcels for families in need in
Langkawi.
On sale were household items and many clothes,
including a whole rail of Baju Kurong (local Muslim dress)
which were very popular with the oncoming Hari Raya
celebrations. We were also selling copies of our colourful
Asian recipe book that arrived hot off the press just a few
days before the event.
Payapaya, the organic vegetable growing company based
in Langkawi, continued its support of The Charity Club by
sharing our stall to sell a variety of vegetables and
homemade pickles. They kindly donated all proceeds from the
sale of the morning’s harvest as well as a percentage of the
sale of their pickles. Thank you Kyri!
Thank you also to 13 year old Kelly Gray who baked
and donated a Mississippi Mud Pie for sale on the stall – it
was a sellout!
The event raised a total of RM1,152 from all sales and
donations.
A big thank you to all of you who supported us,
especially our tireless volunteers - Ben, Kym, Fauziah, Jo,
Michelle, Roberta, Trish and Yvonne - who set up and ran the
stall on the day.
